Report to Contributors re Wajax Pension Surplus Challenge
Recently your committee has been asked by quite a few contributors questions
that they would like answered . The main questions that have been asked many
times are as follows:
1. How much support in the way of $100 contributions have we had?
2. What is our next step?
3. Why did we not organize a representative group to protest our treatment at
the Wajax Annual Meeting as was done by the National Trust Pension Group?
We will answer these to the best of our ability keeping in mind that some
information must remain confidential or it would jeopardize our expected legal
case.
Question #1-
The support from the employees has been nothing short of unbelievable. In our
initial meetings we arrived at a budget figure which we required to get
information together, legal consultation, and seed money for a hoped for lawsuit
against Wajax. With this $ figure in mind we estimated how many people would
need to contribute to cover these costs and agreed that if this estimated number
of contributors were not forthcoming we would abandon our campaign.
We are pleased to report that our budget was exceeded in the first couple of
weeks and contributions continue to come in. We have now more than doubled our
minimum requirement so we are able to handle expected expenditures comfortably.
This does not mean that we cannot use more so if you know anyone who has not
joined us please encourage them to do so.
Question #2-
We are now nearing a legal opinion on our chances of success so this question
should be answered within the next two weeks
Question #3-
We purposely did not promote a confrontation at
the Annual meeting for the following reasons:
a) We do not want to embarrass Wajax as we are still mainly loyal employees and
want the Company to prosper as this will enhance our lives. We only want what
we feel is due us i.e. The Pension Surplus.
b) We have been asked by a well known member of the national press to give an
interview towards an article about "The Sobeys and their minions exploiting
their poor workers" we guess similar to the infamous Dominion Stores vs Conrad
Black lawsuit several years ago. We have refused for the reason above plus we do
not feel exploited except with reference to the Pension Surplus.
